Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I buy a gi, rash gear and belt?
At Eastside Grapplers we have some Eastside branded gi’s and rash gear for sale. We often do one or two orders of branded gi’s per year. If we don’t have an Eastside gi available for you in your size, or you prefer a non-branded gi, we suggest purchasing through Zenjo Martial Arts Supplies in Onehunga.
Belts are often sold separately to gi’s. If we are ordering Eastside gi’s we’ll ask you whether you need a new white belt (if you’re new). Otherwise, you can also purchase a belt from Zenjo.
For belts other than white belts, these are awarded to you by your Coach as you progress on your training journey.
What do I do if I want to pause or cancel my membership?
We just need two weeks’ notice, via email, in order to pause or cancel membership.
Note: there is a minimum notice period of two weeks.
What happens if my payment doesn’t go through?
You will receive an email informing you that payment has failed and has been rescheduled. A $10 transaction fee per payment failure will apply. You can also contact us to make alternative arrangments. To avoid late fees, please ensure that you have money in your account before your scheduled payment date.
What do I need to know about going on the mat?
Don’t wear shoes! While you need to wear shoes everywhere else at the gym (no bare feet allowed), shoes are definitely not allowed on the mat.
Any workout gear must have no zips or buttons. These can rip the mats or scratch your team members.
Remove any jewelry that can catch, especially earrings.
Clip fingernails and toenails for health and safety. Nails can easily cut your teammate, and this can become infected easily.
Bring a towel and water bottle as we have a freshwater cooler at the gym.
What do I wear to classes?
For beginner’s and kids Brazilian jiu jitsu classes we wear Jiu Jitsu gi’s.
For no-gi classes you come wearing rash gear or comfortable workout clothes with no buttons, zips or open velcro that can cause friction to someone’s skin or to rip the mats.
